I have many decades of knowledge in the study and application of integrative and functional health and nutrition to create optimal well being. I offer this knowledge to support healing and happiness in my clients. If you wish to explore the way your diet effects your well being on multiple levels, including the emotional, there is much we can do together to bring back, or create for the first time, the vibrancy and health you've always wanted to have in your life. Nutritional Coaching and Therapy can be paired with powerful Hakomi and Somatic approaches, or simply used on its own to improve mood and physical health.

Nutrition has a much greater effect on our emotions and moods than we realize. Because we live in a depleted world we can be eating plenty of food and yet still be very undernourished. Did you know that the serving of broccoli you had yesterday has 86% less vital minerals in it than that same size serving that your grandmother ate 80 years ago? The epidemic of anxiety and depression and other emotional health issues happening now is deeply connected to the loss of critical nutritional elements in our soil and food supply.

That churning in your gut- the nervous stomach and gastric distress - is more than just an inconvenience or purely physical phenomena. The bacteria in our gut are now known to produce 80% of the serotonin that is created in our body. So the health of the bacteria inside us is connected to our actual emotional state! Serotonin is a neurotransmitter molecule that we all need to feel happiness and joy. The multitude of symbiotic bacteria and organisms inside us is collectively known as our 'Microbiome'. They are intimately connected to even our changing moods. The Microbiome is a 10 to 1 ratio of bacteria to each human cell that exists in our body. A healthy human being carries 3-4 pounds of microorganisms in their digestive tracts, both friendly and unfriendly. We truly are a village of organisms working in concert - and much more complex than ever imagined! As children soil organisms colonize us when we play in the dirt and for the rest of our lives these organisms help us to metabolize the foods that we eat. In our formative years we are meant to be close to the earth and the earth is meant to enter us, quite literally.  As a result, our moods and our well-being are not solely an outcome of our thinking and our minds - these co-inhabitant microorganisms inside us effect our actual emotions. There are many psychological manifestations of imbalanced microflora, including depression, anxiety, insomnia, attentional and memory problems, mood swings, chronic fatigue, and PMS, irritability, learning disabilities,  dyslexia, dyspraxia, autism, and psychotic disorders, to name a few.

Unfortunately, in this day and age, so many of us struggle with a level of stress that is unprecedented in human history.  This leads to depletion of nutrients and also the microbiome. On one level this is cultural  - (and even spiritual )- and totally new for us as a species. Research now shows that all levels of our well-being are impacted by the physical - and all effect each other.

So what can we do to create health and vibrancy and stable good moods? Here are some of the options that can be employed depending on your individual needs that we will uncover together  ~

  • We alter our diet to feed ourselves the right nutrients to thrive mentally and emotionally and physically.

  • We compassionately explore the emotional underpinnings of health and what might be preventing vibrant health in our thoughts and beliefs.

  • We repair our gastrointestinal tract by supporting the bacteria that we are designed to coexist with, though a specific and individualized  nutritious diet that supports the proliferation of friendly bacteria. This can be achieved through supplementation with fermented foods and probiotics.

  • We periodically enable detoxification support due to living in this very toxic world.

  • We support ourselves on all biological levels by making sure we eat to recover from deficiencies once we discover what they are

  • We cultivate supportive and close relationships in our lives because these things lower stress and increase physical health and resiliency

It's a kind of internal dance and orchestration, that in a delicate balance, creates the opportunity for well-being and a release from chronic suffering.
