ABOUT ME

Welcome. Thank you for landing here and considering working with me.

I am a Certified Hakomi Practitioner with a focus on accessing the body's wisdom and innate ability to heal us on a holistic level. I have trained in multiple modalities in addition to Hakomi, including Somatic Experiencing and NeuroAffective Touch.

I graduated from the Hakomi Institute's multi-year training program in experiential, mindfulness-based somatic therapeutic coaching. My emphasis is on helping you to access core unconscious material inside of you through somatic (body-based) methodologies. This emphasis on the body makes the process of change more rapid and gentle than continually talking about what you may already be aware of.

I am also a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner and Health Coach specializing in supporting the  physiological basis for emotional health and physical well-being. Combining both inner emotional exploration  and nutritional approaches to our desired outcome is often more powerful and effective then using just one or the other. The choice is yours however, and if one particular option sounds right for you am here to assist you with whichever approach you choose.

I provide a safe and supportive environment for you to find out more about who you are, so you can create the changes you desire in your life. We start right where you are because this present moment contains the sum of all that has happened to you.

SPECIALIZED TRAINING

Even as a child I sought a greater awareness of myself. I grew up in a difficult chaotic environment where I felt unsafe and unseen. This created insecurities and a state of constant vigilance in my nervous system. I knew I wanted to find a way out of these conditioned and painful reactions, so I set out early in life on a journey to heal myself. The desire to understand and create lasting change in myself led me to study many methods of self-discovery and healing.  I became a meditator and worked with many spiritual teachings, including Mystical Christianity, Zen, Sufism and Advaita non-dual teachings. I also spent decades discovering the impact of nutrition on mental and physical health. And along the way I became an Interfaith Counseling Minister.

Psychology is a strong area of focus for me. I have studied, worked with, or experienced cognitve therapy, gestalt-based approaches, parts work (IFS), Focusing, Somatic Experiencing, and other body-oriented methods. I have a deep interest in developmental trauma and attachment theory.

In addition, I have studied integrative and functional approaches to health for the last 40+ years, with a particular focus on mental and emotional well-being through diet. I have had my own health challenges, including adrenal fatigue, thyroid  issues and Lyme. I know how the physical can deeply impact our mind and emotions.

All of this work continues to be of great value and informs my practice and life.

When I found Hakomi I felt as if the missing piece had finally arrived. Through Hakomi's mindfulness and somatically-oriented approach, I directly experienced the hidden emotional history of my body, and realized it held the key to understanding and healing myself.

I welcome the opportunity to be part of your self-exploration using this gentle groundbreaking therapy.

With Warmth,

Jocelyn

MY STORY

I bring three decades of work with horses into the mix of my Hakomi practice. Working with these beautiful animals has heightened my sensitivity to all things somatic.

Horses request from us a deep bodily attunement, something that has been entirely erased from modern life. A horse’s embodied language is based on space, movement, and its relationship to objects in its environment. This way of communicating is very subtle and intuitive, grounded in thousands of years of evolution and based in a profound somatic awareness. To truly be at one with them we must enter that spatial grounded world and learn its secrets.

BEING WITH HORSES

For some clients experiencing the grounded beingness of the horse can be helpful. Together, we will notice through mindful attention to your body's sensations, what interacting with this conscious animal does to your awareness of your own 'animal' body. The horse sees us as we are. Emotions and tensions within us that we are not aware of are visible to the horse in every movement we make. Horses are inherently sensitive and perceptive and they can teach us much about ourselves. Generous and forgiving by nature, in their rooted presence we can find our own forgotten memory of what it is to be truly embodied.

Sessions with horses generally are longer - up to an hour and a half. Please inquire to learn more.
